Christian Louboutin fall lookbook has been released, Peter Lipmann has recreated some classic paintings one being Marie-Guillemine Benoist's Portrait d'une negresse from around 1800 The portrait became a symbol of womens emancipation. One of my favourite portraits firstly because it as painted by a woman of a woman and unlike a lot of images of black women around this time it's a strong image not guided by amthropology or male desire of the black female form (regardless of the breast) the sitter looks at ease and strong.
Now the image is being used to sell shoes.........
