transitioning style prt2 braiding

so once you've picked the hair that you like i'm a fan of afro bulk or deep wave i start with about 18 inch and cut to my desired lenght.

braiding

there are many different types of braiding tehniques, twitst, plaits, micro......i'm a fan of micro braids. they last longer and i have gotten the best hair growth results from this style.

when done corectly micro braids will not make you hair fall out!!!

most braider braid to tight, braiding should not be in any way painful! tension should be firm but not tight.

when doing micro braids you need a to take a small piece of hair like a mm square and braid with a small piece of extension hair ( alot of braiders use to much fake hair which put stress on the roots of your hair and creates the dreaded hair loss) so you only need about 15 strands of hair.

with micro braid i braids to the end of my natural hair and with the extension hair put in 3-4 slip knots DO NOT SLIP KNOT YOUR NATURAL HAIR!!

if you are a braiding novice there are alot of how to videos on you tube!

the whole process takes about 8 hours depending on the lenght of hair and how small the individual braids are.

when i am done braiding i wet down the hair this loosens the braid (if they are tight). if you have gone for a curly braid weting down the hair loosen the curls and settles it for a natural look.

if the hair is sythetic i air dry if it human i blow dry. when the hair is fully dry i oil the scalp.

i use the same process for all styles not just micros.

please visit a professional braider or someone with evidence of there work. also visit a professional to take out you braids.

transitioning styles prt 1 braiding

hello ladies, i'm going to do a few posts about transitioning styles.

this post is about braiding CORRECTLY! i stress this because if you have braids poorly installed it will cause hair loss, breakage and it just won't look good which is important.
foundations
first off we have to start with a HEALTHY! head of hair if you have a sensitive scalp or breakage of any kind DO NOT BRAID! so always atart with a good foundation.

it is possible to braid when transitioning from a relaxer to natural you must have a least and inch and a half of new hair growth.

before i braid my hair i rest my hair for a week or so espiacially if i've previously had braids, two nights before i braid i wash and deep condition my hair (i do it to nights before so that my hair isn't too soft and slippy for braiding) i put some light moisterizer thoughout the whole head but i do not oil the scalp this is done when the braids are finished (personal preference).
some braiders strighten the hair before they braid it for a neater braid i do not thing this is good for the hair but you can if you want to

the hair.
so sythentic or human? i prefer to you human it softer and you can find better matches for you hair color and type human hair is very expensive it's about $40.00 a bag and you will need at least three bags. but there are some fantastic sythetic hairs outthere i like outre batic which is just like human hair but a fraction of the price!!!

braided stars

braids..............

those of you that have been reading my blog for a while will no that i am always braiding and unbraiding my hair!

i have a love and hate relationship with braids, they are versitile and when done correctly can protect your hair against the elements and help to promote hair growth. but when i think of the reasons why i decided to go natural (to just let my hair be itself) i feel like a bit of a hypocryte wearing fake hair!! i'd never wear a weave but i wear micro braids!?!?
hmmmmm is that not the same?
but alas i do love braids and braiding i find therpuetic to take a whole day to myself and just do my hair, i've always done my own braids as braider are way to expensive, i'm also very fussy and over the years i have perfected my tecnique. my favourite style is afro twists using human hair at the moment i'm rocking micro braids with a slight wave, its not my usual look but that the other great thing about braids ( and weaves) you can go bone straight and not have to commit to it!

we must remeber that big part of hair is fashion and fashion should be played with.

at the moment my hair is straght but my mind is curly...if that makes sence lol
